Where are you Christmas?

I don't have one Christmas decoration up.  Not a bell, bauble or bow. So why do I feel like I 'm behind?  After all it's only Dec. 3rd.  Nothing like a little self imposed pressure to start the week.

We spent the entire weekend listening to the wind howl, and watching the roof leak in my kitchen, while we got pounded from a series of storms.  My son and husband each sat at a computer, finalizing my son's college applications and fine tuning his essay, praying the power wouldn't go out before he hit the SEND button.  This is my back porch after it was over.  I thought for a while we were going to need sandbags.
Anyway, I almost finished a quilt. Since it's mostly red and green, I guess that qualifies it as a Christmas decoration of sorts.  I'm not that excited about it, it actually looked better in my head.

So I cut it.  Eeeeek! Yes I did.  I cut up my quilt. Hopefully by the end of this week I will show you what I did with it.  Stay tuned.
I started another quilt using some fabric that I bought during the Black Friday sale last week. Now this fabric I don't want to cut.  Look......

Liberty Lifestyle quilting cottons, the Bloomsbury collection in Natural browns.  The minute I opened the package I knew what I wanted to make with it.  It will be big and simple and I can savor each square like a piece of chocolate.
Okay enough procrastination.  I need to go drag the boxes of decorations down from the attic.  Put on some Christmas music to help get things started.  Grab a cookie and some spiced Chai tea.
 C'mon Christmas spirit!!!!

After I do one or two more squares of this.

Have you started or finished decorating yet?

  1. Hi Lynne,

Glad that everything is OK, but a little wet!

We are done decorating at my house, but that is only because I have a resident elf who LOVES to decorate!!

Can't wait to see what you do with the Liberty fabric!! That stuff makes me weak at the knees!

Happy decorating, and have a sip of chai for me!

  2. No decorating here yet. I've asked the Hubs 2 weekends in a row to get the tree and decorations out but he has had "other things to do". Sigh! Oh well, maybe this weekend.

Love the Christmas quilt. Really curious to see what you do with it after cutting it up.

  3. We have a wreath at the front door - does that count? ;-/ So you are definitely not alone! Your weekend sounds like it was wild - hope the leak is fixed up soon. And oh I am interested in the cut up quilt!

  4. Lynne I cannot believe you cut up that lovely quilt but I suppose if it doesn't float your boat at this stage then why not. I shall look forward to seeing just what you do with it. And no I haven't decorated yet nor done any Christmas shopping basically because I have no idea what to give anyone and they haven't come up with any suggestions either. I can feel the feeling of panic rising. Philippa xx

  5. Hi Lynne,
I liked the quilt as it was, but I am very curious to see what you did to it. I am up to make a quilt like a checkerboard in black and white, for my 16 year old son. No colours allowed, if you know what I mean.
And yes, I have all my christmas decoration up, and I am glad I am finished.
We already have snow, so it was easy to get into the christmas spirit early.
    Have a nice week

  6. I'm glad all is well--though eek on the leak in the roof in the kitchen!

Your quilt looks so happy and fresh--love it! The Liberty fabrics make me swoon. I want to buy some but want a plan first, something worthy of them. Love the crocheting, too--very pretty.

We haven't decorated yet. It's tradition here and considered bad luck if your tree goes up before December 8 (Feast of the Immaculate Conception) or if it's taken down before January 6 (Feast of the Epiphany). I used to scoff at that when I first moved here, wanting things up earlier, but then I heard about the bad luck and figured I'd tow the line. ;) Truthfully, I am not so keen on all the extra mess so I'm hoping that the kids & DH won't notice that this weekend could be time to pull everything out.

  8. We have a tree...but no lights nor decorations yet. Just not feeling the Christmas mood yet. Must have been all that rain, although from the looks of it we didn't get as much as you did.

I so want some of those beautiful Liberty fabrics I am seeing all over blogland. I may break before the new year;-)

  9. You are a laugh - making a quilt then cutting it up!! I was busy ooohing and aaahing over it then when I read that you cut it I honestly fell off my chair a little bit! I can't wait to see what you do with it.

I have a dear friend who refers to 1 December as the 1st of Christmas and she has now got me in the habit of putting up the tree on that day. So the small folk helped me (I tweaked it later!) and our tree is up. Because my taste has changed over this last year and my need for colour is a priority - it meant that the traditional red, gold and green theme just wasn't doing it for me. So with a combination of cheap $2 shops and op shopping we now have a very colourful tree that looks like a Christmas ball shop has exploded all over it. I adore it!! Candy canes are hanging everywhere and my kids count them every day to make sure no one has eaten one while they were asleep!

Have a fab week hon. Hope the storms have cleared up over there. We're having dreadful weather today - so much for summer!
