What a Week

Daughter number two is now moved back in, and I don't mind saying I'm exhausted.  There are still boxes stacked up here and there, and my garage is a disaster.  It's like trying to put 10 pounds of mud in a five pound bag.  NOBODY better be moving again anytime soon.

My chickens have gone to the great hen house in the sky.  While we were away helping the daughter move, a neighbor's dog got through the fence and had my chickens for lunch. So much for letting your chickens "free range".   I came home in time to see him trotting off with my little white Leghorn in his mouth.
 I'm still not over it.

My sewing machine is back at the shop for repairs.  Something about a bobbin fetcher.  Really?  Did they make that up?  Just when I was enjoying free motion quilting too!  Thank goodness I have a backup machine.

We bought a new car.  This is a good thing,  and I love my new Acura, but why is the process so stressful?   It took hours to process the paperwork, and negotiate prices, test drive, blah blah blah.  Someone needs to come up with a better procedure for buying a car.  Also being married to a man who likes to read every line of a contact and change the way it is written, doesn't exactly say "pleasant buying experience."

Daughter number one came for a visit this weekend and left with our cat.  He likes her, and her house is a more quiet, calm environment, than the circus I live in, so he will probably love it.  Besides the coyotes have been coming closer to the house lately, and in the daylight hours.  I fear for small pets.
So my cat is gone.
I'm still not over it.

I could go on, but I think I need to insert a picture or two before you all nod off.

Half granny shawl, using Noro sock yarn and an h hook.  I used almost two skeins.  There are so many of these on Ravelry, I had to make one out of this yarn to see what all the fuss was about.
Now I want to make another one.  I'm still not over it.

  2. Wow, you need a big hug. I'm awful sorry about your chickens. The same thing happened to us in April, and I swear I still dream about them, poor lost little things.

Your shawl is go-ho-HOrgeous. I have no Noro sock yarn in the stash, and am a little bummed about it. I want to start one of those right now.

  3. You certainly do not need my permission, but I want you to go and put your feet up and relax!!! You earned a long relaxing session.

I understand the about the kids moving in again. Our oldest(24) moved back in, though his work and school hours are such that we do not always know if he is here or not. I walked into the kitchen this morning and found an empty pizza box on the counter, so he was here;-)

I love your shawl and am heading over to get the pattern. Maybe I will finish one like this. My shell pattern shawl is taking me forever.

    blessings, jill

  5. Oh darling girl - what a week you're having! So sorry to hear about your chickens, that's just awful. I'm so glad that amongst all the not-so-nice stuff, that you were able to have some fun with Noro. Your shawl is gorgeous!!! I only have one skein of it that I won in a giveaway and I'm bursting to try it. Take care. I hope your week improves a wee bit! I'm sure you'll feel so much better once you get your machine back too.

  6. I wouldn't blame you for not being over it...ANY of it! Your poor little chickens! Will your neighbors at least offer to replace them for you? That's so sad! And your kitty...well at least THAT is a happy ending! And your shawl...oooooooo so pretty! I've been seeing them all over...all the colors people are using are sooooo pretty. I hope there aren't any more hard things to try to get over. Being in love with a crochet project...well now, that's something I NEVER want to get over! Sometimes the hook makes it possible to cope with all those other things we can't get over, right? Hugs, Annette

  10. Oh my goodness what a week. We had a similar dog experience with our youngest son's pet rabbit. The eldest son's guinea pig had also been in the run and had hidden behind some paving slabs. It took me over an hour to coax the poor little thing out. It too happened just moments before we got home. That was 9 years ago and I'm still not over it.

The shawl looks beautiful. I am sure you will look fantastic wearing it.

  13. Sorry to hear your hens died. But your shawl is amazing. I finished one myself last week, but as I used Rowan Colourscape Chunky it is of course more...yeah, chunky. Maybe I should have a go at Noro... after trying out the Schoppel Zauberball I ordered last week...

  14. Hi Lynne,

That shawl almost makes up for all the chaos in your household. So sorry about the chickens and the cat :( This is what I would do...grab some yarn and a crochet hook and go crochet in your new car. New car smell cures almost everything :) xoxo Debbie

  15. Lynne ~ I love this shawl and must make one myself now! And I have to tell you ~ I know EXACTLY how you feel about your cat. My Daughter #1 got married in April and about 6 weeks later took one of my {HER} cats to live with her. I do have 3 dogs and another cat. However....:( We have had her since she was 6 weeks old. She is now 9 years old. My other cat who is 10 years old grieved the loss of what she thought was her baby. She seems to be over it now. Even the dogs, especially one of them looked for her. And I still long for her at times. But she IS really attached to my daughter and ADORES her new hubby and she is very happy where she is. Just keep creating lovely things with yarn and enjoy your new car and that wonderful new car smell! It gets easier. I promise :)

  16. Your shawl is just beautiful! It does sound like you've had quite a week. It has to make one wonder about things happening all at once. It's your turn for a string of cheerful happenings!

  17. Your shawl is as wonderful as your week was hard, poor girl...
I hope you feel better by now - and if I did find your shawl at ravelry I would have instantly give it a *favorite*! And add it to my queue :)

  18. Dear Lynne, hope you are well now and you have a better week next than last week! Sorry for any pets it's ever hard to lost them, it's not important is it a cat, or dog or hens (unless neighbour's dog). Your shawl is beautyful but much more I like your patchwork blankets. I was first time at your blog and I loved what I saw. Great work! Greetings from Germany. Sabine
