September

I dug out an old crochet blanket WIP the other day and added more blocks.  I have four (!!) crochet blankets on the go, in various states of completion, and this one seemed as good as any to work on.
Still not feeling the quilting love.  Guess I'm a bit burned out. And September is here with all it's seasonal changes so I'm distracted.  Here's what I notice about September...

I want to crochet something warm and cuddly

Noisy Canadian geese flying overhead

Baseball and football on television at the same time

No one is interested in swimming in the pool lately except the dog

The leaves are raining down from the willow tree in the front yard reminding me to rake

Halloween candy is on display at the supermarket

The grasses and fields are dry.  Farm equipment stirs up dust in the air while harvesting wine grapes and the last of the tomatoes

The nights and early mornings are cooler so little dogs need their hoodies

He has black whiskers on one side and white on the other. Cute eh?

I feel like baking

Irish soda bread, recipe here.  Tim thought it was a giant scone.  Don't do what I did and substitute half the white flour with spelt flour.  It was really good, but too heavy.  Like, I could have used it as a stone on the curling rink, heavy.  All it needs is a handle.  But yummy with jam.  And tea.

Summer is leaving.  I can run the oven without breaking a sweat, work on wool blankets and drink hot tea in the afternoons.
Oh yeah, I love September.

  1. Lynn, your colorful crochet squares look great. I have more wip crochet projects than I can count. I think I got over zealous toward the end of winter and just abandoned them all when spring hit.

It is still very much summer here in Oklahoma. Although with very little rain these months, everything is so dry that it looks like fall.

Thanks for the tip on the soda bread. I've never used spelt flour. What do you like to bake with it?

Your pup in his hoodie is so so cute!

    1. Hi Becky,
I have used spelt flour for pie crusts and scones. It has a nice subtle nutty flavor. I learned about using alternative flours in baking from the book Good to the Grain by Kim Boyce.
      Lots of good recipes!

  5. Oh your pup is SO CUTE!!! Look at that face. Aww. Wish I could have an afternoon with him and play and snuggle. I really like your blanket! I made one a lot like that one a couple of years ago. Think about making the edging something special and you may like it a lot more than you think in the end. I dug out another old WIP yesterday, too, and I worked all day and all evening and into the early morning hours even. It's also a granny. I couldn't put it down. Don't know what it is about the WIPs lately, but they've been calling to me.

  6. Thank you for the reminders of how awesome September is! Love your blanket. It is difficult to only have one afghan going at a time...but the season for cuddling with them while working on them is upon us. ;-)

  7. Oh man--the bread, the gorgeous blanket, the cutest dog in the world wearing a lil COAT! How can you stand it all at once? :) Enjoy the fresh season.

  8. The crochet is lovely! I have got the hang of the stitches, but can't cast on, so I just have one square getting bigger and bigger!

  10. Don't feel bad, I have 2-3 blankets that are yelling at me to finish them. Every once in awhile I grab one and add a bit to it, then get distracted and the next thing I know I am doing something else. I have come to the conclusion that those of us who craft, crochet, knit, sew and do all the stuff in between know that life is short and since we can't do it all (but want to) we do a little of everything, lol.
